This Privacy Policy explains how Alfa Dev (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information in connection with the Age Shield — Age Verification application (“Age Shield”, the “App”) when you install or use it on your Shopify store. By installing or using Age Shield, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Who we are
Age Shield is an age-verification app for Shopify that displays a customizable verification popup (Yes/No, date of birth, terms checkbox, or PIN) to help merchants restrict access to age-restricted products and content. The App is developed and operated by Alfa Dev. You can reach us at support@alfasdevs.com.
2. Information we access and collect
To function, Age Shield accesses certain parts of your store and processes limited visitor interaction data:
- Store & staff data — store owner and contributor details (such as name, store email, and store URL) used to identify and support your account.
- Online Store data — theme/storefront access required to display the verification popup on your store.
- Products & collections — product and collection data used so you can show the popup on specific products, collections, or pages.
- App settings — the popup design, verification method, targeting, geo rules, and scheduling you configure.
- Visitor interaction data — when a visitor responds to the popup, the App processes the verification result (e.g. passed/failed) and may store a short-lived cookie so verified visitors are not repeatedly prompted.
- Approximate location (geo rules) — where you enable country-based rules, the App uses the visitor's IP-derived country to decide whether to show the popup. We do not store the full IP address for marketing purposes.
- Aggregate analytics — counts such as popup views and pass/fail rates, used to power your dashboard.
Where a visitor enters a date of birth, it is used only to calculate whether they meet the age requirement at that moment. Age Shield does not build customer profiles, and does not collect payment information or order details.
3. How we use information
- To display and operate the age-verification popup on your store.
- To apply the verification method, targeting, scheduling, and geo rules you configure.
- To remember that a visitor has already verified, for the cookie duration you set.
- To provide aggregate analytics on popup performance.
- To provide support, debug issues, and improve the App's reliability and security.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent, or trade data, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Data sharing and sub-processors
We share data only where necessary to operate the App, with trusted providers bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations:
- Shopify — the platform the App runs on and the source of store data.
- Cloud hosting / infrastructure providers — used to host the App and store settings and analytics securely.
- Geolocation lookup — used (only when geo rules are enabled) to map a visitor's IP to a country.
We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid government request.
5. Data storage and security
We store your settings and aggregate analytics on secured servers and apply reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and restricted internal access. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we follow industry-standard practices to protect your information.
6. Data retention
We retain your settings and analytics only while the App is installed and as needed to provide the service. Visitor verification cookies last for the duration you configure. When you uninstall Age Shield, Shopify revokes the App's access and we delete or anonymise the associated store data within 30 days, unless we are legally required to retain it longer. You may request earlier deletion at any time (see Section 8).
7. Cookies
Age Shield sets a strictly necessary cookie on your storefront to record that a visitor has passed verification, so they are not prompted again within the period you choose. The App's admin interface may also use necessary cookies to keep you signed in.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California), including the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email support@alfasdevs.com and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
9. Merchant responsibility
As the merchant, you are the data controller for your store. You are responsible for maintaining your own privacy policy, for setting an appropriate minimum age, and for obtaining any consents required from your visitors in connection with how your store operates.
10. Children's privacy
Age Shield is a compliance tool used by store owners to restrict access to age-restricted content. The App does not knowingly collect or retain personal information from children, and date-of-birth entries are used only momentarily to determine eligibility.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
